Guidance
"I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope."
Jeremiah 29:11
The purpose of the Guidance Office is to assist students in achieving their future goals through academic planning, college and career research, the college application process, and exploration of other options for a successful future. As guidance counselor, I will
Assist students to select courses which will help them to meet graduation requirements and their career goals
Help students identify strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies for improvement
Assist students with post-graduation planning, including college, employment, military, and other paths
Provide information on colleges and assist students to evaluate their best options based on their goals and circumstances
Provide information on available scholarships and financial aid
Provide recommendations and transcripts for college applications
Provide information about SAT and ACT testing
Coordinate contact with parents and teachers concerning student progress
All college applications are handled through SCOIR, a college application platform for high schools. Students research and compile their college list, request letters of recommendation and transcripts, and notify Guidance of the status of their applications through SCOIR. They will become familiar with its functioning through their Junior College and Career Project. Students will be invited to register with SCOIR at the beginning of their junior year.
